Reflections on Influence
Greetings!
Have you caught yourself displaying a behavior, trait, or action and you reflect on who had that influence on you?
Recently I was dispassionately listening to myself in a conversation with a client. It was as if I was listening to myself from afar. In my directness and assertiveness I could hear so much of my Father I was amazed. After the appointment, I began to reflect on those individuals who have had a huge influence on me and have to some degree helped shape my image and brand.
I am also a very prompt person when it comes to time and appointments. I am known to arrive early for appointments or events. This trait was influenced by my father. He always said arriving ten minutes early was actually on time.
Today is my Father’s birthday and if he were living, he would turn 88 years of age. He passed away eight years ago on Father’s Day. On this day, my thoughts always turn to him and my feelings for him.
Organization is a strong suit both personally and professionally. When people see my closets, jewelry drawers etc. they always ask if anything is ever out of place. I respond no. This influence came from my Mother.
One of my high school teachers pushed and challenged me to create goals for myself and never stop aspiring to achieve them. I still do this today.
My husband has influenced me in many ways; one being the importance of breakfast. He firmly believes and enjoys a daily breakfast. I never had anything except coffee as I flew out the door for the day. He kept encouraging me to have breakfast and reluctantly I began to do so. To combat high cholesterol, I bake home made oat bran muffins with fruit. So if nothing else, I now enjoy these muffins and coffee for breakfast.
As we journey though life, there will be individuals who truly influence us. We change with the implementation of a behavior or action—which of course can be positive or negative.
